What Happens During a Skin Check
A full skin check usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. Wear loose clothing that’s easy to remove and skip the fake tan or heavy makeup on the day.
1. History and risk
Your doctor asks about your sun exposure, family history, previous skin cancers and any spots you’re worried about.
2. Head to toe examination
A systematic check of your whole body using a dermatoscope, a magnified light that shows detail invisible to the naked eye.
3. Anything suspicious
If a spot needs a closer look, your doctor explains why and what happens next. Most biopsies are done on the spot or booked promptly.
4. Your plan
You leave knowing exactly what was found, what’s being monitored and when your next check is due.
Skin Cancer Services at Southport Metro
Most skin cancer care can be handled in house, from the first check through to treatment and follow up.
Fees and Medicare
We are a mixed billing practice. Skin checks are privately billed with a Medicare rebate available for eligible patients, and your out of pocket cost is explained before your appointment.
Dr Bromberg bulk bills eligible concession card holders.
Procedures such as biopsies and excisions attract separate fees, which your doctor will discuss with you before anything goes ahead. Call reception on (07) 5612 7830 for current fees, or see our fees page.
